Scary Movie movies in order

Ready for a night filled with outrageous slapstick, pop culture parodies, and legendary one-liners? A Scary Movie marathon is just what you need. This cult comedy franchise started as a brilliant spoof of the horror genre and evolved into a six-part rollercoaster where no one is safe from satire. Whether you're here for the iconic "Wassup" scene, the endless Brenda Meeks death gags, or to see how many films Lindsay Lohan, Snoop Dogg, and Charlie Sheen can hilariously parody, you're in for a treat. But beware: this franchise switches creators, styles, and even main characters. The right viewing order is key for maximum chaos and comedy. Grab some popcorn, dim the lights, and let your binge begin.

Scary Movie (2000)

We kick off with the film that set the spoof bar sky-high. Directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans and produced by Dimension Films, Scary Movie is a relentless parody of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, but ten times more absurd. Meet Cindy Campbell (played by Anna Faris in her iconic role) and her chaotic friends, including Brenda Meeks (Regina Hall), Shorty (Marlon Wayans), and Ray (Shawn Wayans). This film is pure nostalgia for anyone who grew up with late-night horror films and MTV humor. The "Wassup" scene alone deserves a place in the meme universe. It's the perfect first step in your Scary Movie marathon, as it introduces the absurd universe where logic is completely ignored.

Scary Movie 2 (2001)

A year later, the original cast returns for a haunted house parody that aims to be even crazier. Think: The Exorcist, Poltergeist, The Haunting, and a touch of Amityville Horror. This sequel, again directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, follows Cindy and her crew as they get trapped in a haunted house where everything goes wrong. From a possessed cat to a creepy butler with a "hand problem" (Chris Elliott as Hanson is next-level weird), Scary Movie 2 is the last film with the Wayans family at the helm, so enjoy the original crew and their chemistry before the franchise takes a different direction.

Scary Movie 3 (2003)

And then... a reboot without really being a reboot. Goodbye Wayans, hello David Zucker, the man behind Airplane! and The Naked Gun. Scary Movie 3 almost entirely replaces the original cast (bye Shorty, bye Ray) but keeps Cindy (Anna Faris) and Brenda (Regina Hall) on board. This time, we get a mix of The Ring, Signs, 8 Mile, and even Matrix Reloaded. Yes, really. Simon Rex debuts as George, and Charlie Sheen shines as the emotionally confused Tom Logan. The humor becomes a bit cleaner but no less absurd. Think: alien invasions with surprising finger gestures and a cursed videotape that even your grandma couldn't survive. This film is a must in your Scary Movie watch order because it ushers in a new era for the franchise.

Scary Movie 4 (2006)

Cindy is back (yep, still Anna Faris), and this time she dives into a mix of War of the Worlds, The Grudge, Saw, and Million Dollar Baby. Leslie Nielsen returns as President Harris in a role that only gets dumber as the film progresses and we mean that as a compliment. The Scary Movie franchise fully embraces the J-horror parody with a creepy girl from the well and the brutal traps from Saw. The film feels like a greatest hits album of 2000s horror, with a hefty dose of meta-comedy. If you thought Brenda's previous "death" was bizarre, wait until you see what happens to her now. This film builds on part 3, so make sure you don't skip it.

Scary Movie 5 (2013)

Okay, now it gets tricky. Scary Movie 5 is the only installment without Cindy Campbell, Brenda Meeks, or George Logan. Instead, we get Ashley Tisdale as Jody Sanders, and Simon Rex returns, but as a completely different character (relatable for anyone who's ever accidentally started a sequel without seeing the previous one). Directed by Malcolm D. Lee, this film parodies Paranormal Activity, Black Swan, Inception, and Mama. The humor is hit-or-miss, but the cameos from Snoop Dogg and Lindsay Lohan make up for it. This installment feels looser from the rest, but in terms of Scary Movie watch order, it belongs in fifth place: it's a new generation but with the same over-the-top spoof vibes.

Scary Movie 6 (TBA)

And yes, we're still waiting for Scary Movie 6. Dimension Films and Miramax have confirmed production, and the rumor mill is in overdrive. Will Anna Faris return as Cindy Campbell? Will it be a reboot, a soft sequel, or just a new batch of pop culture parody humor? One thing is certain: if this film comes, it will be the ultimate test for the franchise. Until then, keep your marathon to five parts, but leave room on the couch for part six you never know when it might suddenly appear.

Why This Order Works for Your Binge Night

This chronological order shows you exactly how the Scary Movie franchise develops: from the raw, unfiltered jokes of the Wayans to the more stylized and reference-rich humor of David Zucker and then the reboot-like approach of part five. Watching them in order lets you see the evolution of characters like Cindy and Brenda and how the parodies change with the horror films of the time. From slasher comedy parody to supernatural comedy parody, it's all in there.

Tips for the Ultimate Scary Movie Marathon

Plan your marathon with snack breaks after each part (your jaws will hurt from laughing), and ensure a comfy couch, blankets, and a speaker loud enough for Brenda's screams. Invite friends who know the original horror films the more inside jokes they get, the harder the laughter. And if you really want to score: throw in a trivia round during breaks about who can spot the most parody references. Spoiler: there are a lot.
