Scary Movie movies in order

Get ready for a night full of over-the-top slapstick, pop culture parodies, and classic one-liners. A Scary Movie marathon is just what you need. This comedy franchise started out as a clever spoof of the horror genre and turned into a six-part rollercoaster where no one is safe from satire. Whether you're here for the "Wassup" scene, the endless "Brenda Meeks" death gags, or to see how many movies Lindsay Lohan, Snoop Dogg, and Charlie Sheen can hilariously parody, you're in for a treat. But watch out, this franchise goes through different creators, styles, and even main characters. The right order in which to watch these videos is key to getting the most out of them. Grab some popcorn, turn down the lights, and get ready for a binge-watching session!

Scary Movie (2000)

We're starting with the film that set the spoof bar sky-high. Keenen Ivory Wayans directed it, and Dimension Films produced it. Scary Movie is a parody of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, but it's way more absurd. Meet Cindy Campbell (played by Anna Faris in her iconic role) and her chaotic friends, including Brenda Meeks (Regina Hall), Shorty (Marlon Wayans), and Ray (Shawn Wayans). If you grew up with late-night horror movies and MTV comedy, this film is pure nostalgia. The "Wassup" scene alone is legendary. It's the perfect way to kick off your Scary Movie marathon because it shows you the crazy world where nothing makes sense.

Scary Movie 2 (2001)

A year later, the original cast is back for another haunted house parody that's even crazier. It's like a mix of The Exorcist, Poltergeist, The Haunting, and a bit of Amityville Horror. Keenen Ivory Wayans directed this sequel, which follows Cindy and her crew as they get trapped in a haunted house where everything goes wrong. From a possessed cat to a creepy butler with a "hand problem" (Chris Elliott as Hanson is next-level weird), Scary Movie 2 is the last film with the Wayans family at the helm, so enjoy the original crew and their chemistry before the franchise takes a different direction.

Scary Movie 3 (2003)

And then... a reboot, but not really a reboot. Say goodbye to Wayans and hello to David Zucker, the genius behind Airplane! and The Naked Gun. Scary Movie 3 pretty much replaces the original cast (shorty and Ray are out, and Cindy and Brenda are still in). This time, we get a mix of The Ring, Signs, 8 Mile, and even The Matrix Reloaded. Yes, really. Simon Rex makes his debut as George, and Charlie Sheen shines as the emotionally confused Tom Logan. The humor is a bit cleaner, but it's still pretty absurd. Picture an alien invasion with some pretty wild finger gestures and a cursed videotape that even your grandma wouldn't be able to survive. You've got to see this film if you're watching the Scary Movie series because it starts a whole new era for the franchise.

Scary Movie 4 (2006)

Cindy's back (yep, still Anna Faris), and this time she mixes in elements from The War of the Worlds, The Grudge, Saw, and Million Dollar Baby. Leslie Nielsen returns as President Harris in a role that only gets dumber as the film progresses, and we mean that as a compliment. The Scary Movie franchise really goes for it with the J-horror parody, using a creepy girl from the well and the brutal traps from Saw. The film feels like a greatest hits album of 2000s horror, with a hefty dose of meta-comedy. If you thought Brenda's previous "death" was bizarre, wait until you see what happens to her now. This film is based on Part 3, so don't forget to watch it!

Scary Movie 5 (2013)

Okay, now it gets tricky. Scary Movie 5 is the only one without Cindy Campbell, Brenda Meeks, or George Logan. Instead, we get Ashley Tisdale as Jody Sanders, and Simon Rex returns, but as a completely different character (relatable for anyone who's ever accidentally started a sequel without seeing the previous one). Malcolm D. Lee directed this film, which is a parody of Paranormal Activity, Black Swan, Inception, and Mama. The humor is hit-or-miss, but the cameos from Snoop Dogg and Lindsay Lohan make up for it. This installment feels a bit looser than the others, but in terms of the Scary Movie watch order, it's in fifth place. It's a new generation, but it's got the same over-the-top spoof vibes.

Scary Movie 6 (TBA)

And yes, we're still waiting for Scary Movie 6. Dimension Films and Miramax have confirmed production, and the rumor mill is going strong. I'm wondering if Anna Faris will return as Cindy Campbell. I'm wondering if it will be a reboot, a soft sequel, or just a new batch of pop culture parody humor. One thing's for sure: if this film comes out, it'll be the ultimate test for the franchise. For now, keep your marathon to five parts, but save room on the couch for part six. You never know when it might suddenly pop up.

Why This Order Works for Your Binge Night

This chronological order shows you exactly how the Scary Movie franchise develops. It starts with the raw, unfiltered jokes of the Wayans, then moves on to the more stylized and reference-rich humor of David Zucker, and finishes with the reboot-like approach of part five. Watching them in order lets you see how the characters like Cindy and Brenda change and how the parodies change with the horror movies of the time. From slasher comedy parodies to supernatural comedy parodies, it's all in there.

Tips for the Ultimate Scary Movie Marathon

Plan your marathon with snack breaks after each part (you'll be so busy laughing that your jaws will hurt), and make sure you have a comfy couch, blankets, and a speaker loud enough for Brenda's screams. Invite your friends who know the original horror films. The more inside jokes they get, the harder the laughter. And if you really want to score, throw in a trivia round during breaks about who can spot the most parody references. Spoiler alert: there are a lot of them.
